Shangkhachil is a place to read. This site does not try to find out who is reading what — and below is the whole of what it does record, and what it never records.

If you read without an account

No account is needed to read. Reading, searching and looking up old words are all free without signing in. In that state the site does not have your name, your email or any identifier for you.

What is counted

How many works were opened, and how long they were read — enough to tell whether the site is of use to anyone. This is the complete list of what is sent with any event:

Which work was opened, how many chapters it has, and from which country — Bangladesh, India, Canada, the United States, or “international”. Nothing finer than that.
Which chapter was reached, and how many seconds.
A search's shape and a coarse length bucket, and how many results came back.
Which author's or which era's page was opened; whether the AI offer was shown, and whether anyone took it.

What is never collected

Not the text of what you searched for. The shape and length of a search are sent; the words are not. On a literature site people search their own name, their village, a line they heard at a funeral. That is not ours to know. This is not a promise of restraint: the event schema has no free-text field of any kind, so a query cannot be put into it.
No identifier. None is generated, none is stored, none is sent. So two events cannot be joined into a person. The site can say “this many works were opened today”; it cannot say “this person read that”.
No IP address, no browser fingerprint, no referrer. The server that receives these counts does not read those parts of the request at all.
No advertising or tracking cookies today. As of the date above no advertising runs on this site and no third-party tracking script loads on any page. Advertising is planned — what it will and will not do is set out under “Advertising” below, and this line will change on the day it starts.

What stays on your own device

Your reading preferences — text size, night mode, whether a book's summary panel is open, and which language you chose for this page — are kept in your own browser, not on a server. They are never sent anywhere. Clearing your browser's stored data removes them, and the site works exactly as before.

If you open an account

Signing in exists for two things only: My Shelf, and Shangkhachil AI. This is everything held behind an account:

Your email address — to send the sign-in code. There is no password.
What you have read and where you stopped — so the next visit resumes there.
Saved works and bookmarks.
Your credit balance — the count of AI operations used.

This is your own data, not analytics material: none of it feeds the counts above. Deleting your account deletes all of it together, with nothing left behind.

If you ask the AI something

When you select a passage and press “Simplify”, “English” or “Explain”, or ask the AI a question, the selected passage or your question is sent to a language model to produce the answer (currently Google Gemini). Who you are does not travel with that request. An answer may be stored so the same question does not cost a second time.

Nothing is sent unless you ask for it — the AI does not send what you are reading anywhere on its own.

Services used

Netlify — where the site runs. Ordinary server logs are kept under their own policy.
Supabase — where accounts and the data above are stored.
Google Gemini — for AI answers, only when you ask.
Google AdSense — not active yet; see “Advertising” below for what it will do when it is.

Advertising

No advertising runs on this site as of the date above. It is planned, through Google AdSense, and this is what will be true when it starts — written now so that turning it on changes the site, not the terms you were told.

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site or other sites.
Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits here and elsewhere on the internet.
You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings, or opt out of a third-party vendor's cookies at aboutads.info.
Where the law requires consent before such cookies are set, it will be asked for first, and refusing it will not take away any reading.
Ads will never be placed inside the text of a work. The reading surface stays the reading surface — that is a product rule here, not a legal one, and it is stated because it is the part a reader actually cares about.

None of this changes the section above: advertising does not give this site an identifier for you, and it does not send anyone what you searched for.

Children

Shangkhachil is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from them.

Your rights

With an account you can view, correct or delete your data — deleting the account removes all of it at once. Without an account there is nothing to delete, because nothing can be linked to you.

অ্যাকাউন্ট ছাড়া পড়লে

পড়তে কোনো অ্যাকাউন্ট লাগে না। পড়া, খোঁজা, শব্দের অর্থ দেখা — সবই বিনামূল্যে, সাইন-ইন ছাড়াই। এই অবস্থায় আপনার নাম, ইমেল বা পরিচয় সাইটের কাছে নেই।

যা গোনা হয়

কতগুলি রচনা খোলা হল, কতক্ষণ পড়া হল — এইটুকু গোনা হয়, যাতে জানা যায় সাইটটি কাজে লাগছে কি না। প্রতিটি ঘটনার সঙ্গে যা যায়, তার সম্পূর্ণ তালিকা:

কোন রচনা খোলা হয়েছে, তাতে কতগুলি পরিচ্ছেদ আছে, এবং কোন দেশ থেকে — বাংলাদেশ, ভারত, কানাডা, যুক্তরাষ্ট্র বা “আন্তর্জাতিক”; এর চেয়ে সূক্ষ্ম নয়।
কোন পরিচ্ছেদ পর্যন্ত পড়া হয়েছে, এবং কত সেকেন্ড।
খোঁজের ধরন ও দৈর্ঘ্যের মোটামুটি মাপ, এবং কতগুলি ফল এসেছে।
কোন লেখকের বা কোন যুগের পাতা খোলা হয়েছে; এআই-এর প্রস্তাব দেখানো হয়েছে কি না এবং কেউ তাতে সাড়া দিয়েছেন কি না।

যা কখনও নেওয়া হয় না

আপনি কী খুঁজেছেন, সেই লেখাটি নয়। খোঁজের ধরন ও দৈর্ঘ্য যায়, শব্দগুলি নয় — সাহিত্যের সাইটে মানুষ নিজের নাম খোঁজে, নিজের গ্রামের নাম খোঁজে, শোকসভায় শোনা একটি লাইন খোঁজে। সেটি আমাদের জানার কথা নয়। এটি সংযমের প্রতিশ্রুতি নয় — ঘটনার কাঠামোয় মুক্ত-পাঠ্যের কোনো ঘর নেই, তাই খোঁজের শব্দ সেখানে রাখাই যায় না।
কোনো পরিচয়-চিহ্ন নয়। কোনো আইডি তৈরি হয় না, রাখা হয় না, পাঠানো হয় না। তাই একই পাঠকের দুটি ঘটনাকে জোড়া দেওয়ার উপায় নেই। সাইট বলতে পারে “আজ কতগুলি রচনা খোলা হয়েছে”; বলতে পারে না “এই মানুষটি কী পড়েছেন”।
আইপি ঠিকানা, ব্রাউজারের পরিচয়, বা আপনি কোন পাতা থেকে এলেন — কিছুই পড়া হয় না। যে সার্ভার এই গণনা নেয়, সে অনুরোধের এই অংশগুলি স্পর্শই করে না।
আজ পর্যন্ত বিজ্ঞাপন বা ট্র্যাকিং কুকি নয়। উপরের তারিখ পর্যন্ত এই সাইটে কোনো বিজ্ঞাপন চলে না এবং তৃতীয় পক্ষের কোনো ট্র্যাকিং স্ক্রিপ্ট কোনো পাতায় লোড হয় না। বিজ্ঞাপন আনার পরিকল্পনা আছে — তখন কী হবে আর কী হবে না, তা নিচে “বিজ্ঞাপন” অংশে লেখা; যেদিন শুরু হবে, সেদিন এই লাইনটিও বদলাবে।

আপনার যন্ত্রেই যা থাকে

পড়ার পছন্দগুলি — অক্ষরের আকার, রাত্রি-মোড, বইয়ের পরিচিতি খোলা না বন্ধ, এবং এই পাতার জন্য আপনি কোন ভাষা বেছেছেন — আপনার ব্রাউজারেই থাকে, সার্ভারে নয়। এগুলি কোথাও পাঠানো হয় না। ব্রাউজারের সংরক্ষিত তথ্য মুছে দিলে এগুলিও চলে যায়, আর সাইট আগের মতোই চলে।

অ্যাকাউন্ট খুললে

সাইন-ইন কেবল দুটি জিনিসের জন্য — আমার তাক এবং শঙ্খচিল এআই। অ্যাকাউন্টের পিছনে যা যা রাখা হয়, তার পুরো তালিকা:

ইমেল ঠিকানা — সাইন-ইন কোড পাঠানোর জন্য। পাসওয়ার্ড নেই।
কী পড়েছেন ও কোথায় থেমেছেন — যাতে পরের বার সেখান থেকেই শুরু হয়।
সংরক্ষিত রচনা ও বুকমার্ক।
ক্রেডিটের হিসাব — এআই-কে করা কাজের সংখ্যা।

এগুলি আপনার নিজের তথ্য, বিশ্লেষণের উপকরণ নয় — উপরের গণনায় এর কিছুই যোগ হয় না। অ্যাকাউন্ট মুছে দিলে এই সবকিছু একসঙ্গে মুছে যায়, কোনো অবশিষ্ট থাকে না।

এআই-কে কিছু বললে

আপনি যখন কোনো অংশ বেছে “সহজ করো”, “English” বা “ব্যাখ্যা” চাপেন, কিংবা এআই-কে প্রশ্ন করেন, তখন বেছে নেওয়া অংশটি বা প্রশ্নটি উত্তর তৈরির জন্য একটি ভাষা-মডেলে পাঠানো হয় (বর্তমানে Google Gemini)। আপনি কে, তা সেই অনুরোধের সঙ্গে যায় না। একই প্রশ্নে দ্বিতীয় বার যাতে খরচ না হয়, তার জন্য উত্তর জমা রাখা হতে পারে।

আপনি না চাইলে কিছুই যায় না — এআই নিজে থেকে আপনার পড়া লেখা কোথাও পাঠায় না।

যাদের সেবা ব্যবহার করা হয়

Netlify — সাইটটি যেখানে চলে। সাধারণ সার্ভার-লগ তাদের নিজস্ব নিয়মে রাখা হয়।
Supabase — অ্যাকাউন্ট ও উপরের তথ্যগুলি যেখানে জমা থাকে।
Google Gemini — এআই-এর উত্তরের জন্য, কেবল যখন আপনি চান।
Google AdSense — এখনও চালু নয়; চালু হলে কী হবে, তা নিচের “বিজ্ঞাপন” অংশে।

বিজ্ঞাপন

উপরের তারিখ পর্যন্ত এই সাইটে কোনো বিজ্ঞাপন চলে না। Google AdSense-এর মাধ্যমে বিজ্ঞাপন আনার পরিকল্পনা আছে, এবং শুরু হলে যা যা সত্য হবে তা এখনই লেখা রইল — যাতে চালু করার দিন সাইট বদলায়, আপনাকে বলা শর্ত নয়।

Google-সহ তৃতীয় পক্ষের সরবরাহকারীরা কুকি ব্যবহার করে — এই সাইটে বা অন্য সাইটে আপনার আগের যাতায়াতের ভিত্তিতে বিজ্ঞাপন দেখানোর জন্য।
Google-এর বিজ্ঞাপন-কুকি ব্যবহারের ফলে Google ও তার অংশীদারেরা এখানে ও ইন্টারনেটের অন্যত্র আপনার যাতায়াত অনুসারে বিজ্ঞাপন দেখাতে পারে।
ব্যক্তিগতকৃত বিজ্ঞাপন বন্ধ করতে পারেন Google Ads Settings-এ, কিংবা তৃতীয় পক্ষের কুকি বন্ধ করতে aboutads.info-এ।
যেখানে আইন অনুযায়ী এমন কুকির জন্য আগে সম্মতি লাগে, সেখানে আগে সম্মতি চাওয়া হবে; না দিলে পড়ার কিছুই কমবে না।
রচনার লেখার মধ্যে বিজ্ঞাপন কখনও বসবে না। পড়ার জায়গা পড়ারই থাকবে — এটি আইনের নয়, এই সাইটের নিজের নিয়ম, এবং লেখা হল কারণ পাঠকের কাছে এটিই আসল কথা।

এতে উপরের কথাগুলি বদলায় না: বিজ্ঞাপন এই সাইটকে আপনার কোনো পরিচয়-চিহ্ন দেয় না, এবং আপনি কী খুঁজেছেন তা কাউকে পাঠায় না।

শিশুরা

শঙ্খচিল শিশুদের লক্ষ্য করে তৈরি নয় এবং শিশুদের কাছ থেকে জেনেশুনে কোনো তথ্য সংগ্রহ করে না।

আপনার অধিকার

অ্যাকাউন্ট থাকলে আপনি নিজের তথ্য দেখতে, সংশোধন করতে বা মুছে ফেলতে পারেন — অ্যাকাউন্ট মুছলে সবই একসঙ্গে যায়। অ্যাকাউন্ট না থাকলে মোছার মতো কিছু নেই, কারণ কিছুই আপনার সঙ্গে যুক্ত করা যায় না।
